lost and found Mr.Bond

My meeting with Bond took place on one fine morning when our teacher made our read through, "Sounds I like to hear,"..a few years back I had learnt to imagine and now came the next step-"close your eyes and hear, listen and recognize sounds around you". It felt grand and the whole year was a gift in itself, for the trick helped me to understand the world around me from a different perspective. Sadly, my text book got sold off with a bunch of old newspapers and I missed my "sounds I like to hear" the most...all I knew was it was written by Ruskin Bond. And, down the years I looked for that piece in all the Bond books I came across-but for one.

Bond came into life again. A teacher again taught me about him-this time it was "the eyes are not here". I learnt to see the world with a different light yet again. But yes I missed the "sounds...". And few more years of searching and waiting followed.
A friend told me about Bond's autobiographical book-"rain in the mountains". And I could not stop myself from buying it in two day's time. It was a tough day- I snailed through the world and reached my house pretty late, tired and weak all through out, I looked and found a parcel waiting for me on the table- with tired fingers I ripped the casting and "rain in the mountains" glowed back at me...Was it apprehension, a distant rumbling of the clouds or the sudden cold wind, that touched my face softly, I flipped through the pages and studied the index closely. Buy the book, turn to page 108 of the penguin edition and read through.

ghalib again...

"Today none buys my verse's wine, that it may grow old
To make the senses reel in many a drinker yet to come
My star rose highest in the firmament before my birth
My poetry will win the world's acclaim when I am gone..."

Another brilliant piece by Mira Ghalib. true in every sense...yet, with these verse the time stands still...with these verse I stop to think, eat drink and make merry, with a cold heart, that does not beat by remain static like the broken watch over the ruin city tower, like a old picture frame...like...rumbling again yes I might...but the words are true, so true that we want to hide it...
So flash your teeth to the world,
so say you are happy to all those you meet,
for smile soothes pain
and care seals the wound from outside...
yes only from outside

Recipe of "Sweet Heart"

Romance is not on the cards, so keep your eyebrows in their place. I am not talking about love and all the blah, blah, blah, in this post.Yet I have learnt to make "Sweet Heart"-cookie munchers, addicts and stealer, keep out, for I am neither helping you by procuring heart shaped sweet delectable cookie filled jars from thin air.

Now, lets get into business, I am quiting from giving you all that initial rumbling...!

Easy to follow steps:

For this recipe you need two individuals, can be of any age but having young hearts in mandatory.

1) One person "a" should be made to wait for an hour at one place by person "b"; afternoon for evening is ideal.

Note: we are not making Indian tandoors out of poor souls, in this scorching month of either September or October, so avoid noon time.
Remember, the Indian monsoons are particularly getting erratic for the past few years-so if you are person "a", quit praying for a sudden shower relief.

2) Person "a" should walk about in circles, should wait without showing, anger, remorse or agitation. Should mediate under all weather conditions-promote the rise of promoters of Yoga.

3) Calculate the waiting time to be around one hour- person "a"should be well seasoned through the time period.

4)  Person "b" makes an entry, but no place to sit and start discussion.

5) Person "a" perhaps fuming within, person "b"- measuring words, apprehensive of sudden emotional outburst, the search for two vacant sitting places begins.

6) Finally person "a" and person"b" can rest their back and bottom,God Bless an off the route cafe.

7) Two beating hearts try to make, initiate some casual talk, yet the condition is still not under control, the AC, is perhaps not working!!

8)Coffee is ordered, coffee is served. Coffee with heart shaped made out of cream is looking up at person "a" and person"b".

9) Notice the perfect ice cubes three in number lined up, off the hot cup and along the saucer edge...these are vital inventories, you simply cannot overlook.

10) So long, person "b" was trying, failing, trying and failing to keep up... person "a" keeping close to the trait of jumping upon topics, at the same time concluding none...

11) And then the real cooking begins, like a bolt from blue, like a 1000 rupee note lying on the path, like chancing upon a glam girl or a handsome man in a crowded smelling Indian bus, idea strikes person "a".

12) Person "a", picks one of the three sugar cubes and pops it in the mouth- declaring an intensive affinity for all that is sweet and primarily drawing considerable bewilderment and attention of person "b".

13) the stage is set, the plate is laid...next comes the finale...person"a" picks the second sugar cube in waiting, plays with it and cautiously balances it about the heart shape floating on the brewing coffee settled in the table. Aiming right at its center, person "a" drops it with confidence. The cube floats, so does the so long fretting heart of person "b". The cube now semi submerged- the heart of person "b" melting already. Finally it disappears in thick coffee heart, person "b" is available to forget, forgive person "a" for all that initial waiting and is beaming with delight.

14) Mission of person "a" accomplished and there goes the real trick of creating "sweet heart" along with it.

My suggestion: Seems like a good idea to bright up those angry folks, just invite them for coffee and stock ice cubes in advance, it can be repeated anywhere..even at home, if the above settings are unavailable-it could include anyone-look about-start with horrible neighbors first!

Declaimer: "I have not seen this, but heard about this from a traveler bound to the road, who had in turn seen this little sight happen in a quiet inn, off the road. I did manage to ask the name of the creator of "sweet heart", but my friend was in a hurry  and just managed to mumble-"may be that was another "peculiar and eccentric" path finder like me."

a little chance meeting with Russian songs and music

These links were sent by a brother living miles apart. We believe that the moment we get a chance to express yourselves, our are in a state of elision. what about the moment, we decide to open our otherwise closed up mind, hidden identity, and embark on a journey of gathering knowledge, living moments, that are foreign, of the foreign, by the foreign and for the foreign (thats what is called constitutionally speaking). we might invade little private spaces, but for a wanderer, such invasions are mostly from the doorpost...never beyond that...

Hoping that you liked the music, the songs, I don't know the russian language.Yet, following the example of a currently running Indian telecom ad, I would say,
" Bolne ke liye (na) kisi vasha ki zaroorat nehi hoti".
To say and express you dont need a language, Listen to the songs and the musical with your heart, you will thus understand more.

Bengali men have to got through hard times

Indeed, Bengali boddyolak have a hard time...my brother just told me why...

To Chhoton, Bulbul, Khoka, Laltu, Gogol, Babu, Buro, Tutu, Bubu, Ghoton, Bhutan, Chhotka, Shanto, Bubai, Tubul . . . et al.
Here is an attempt to alert people to a great injustice that is being perpetrated upon the sons of Bengal.

When a son is born into a Bengali household, he is gifted with a resonant, sonorous name. Bengali names are wonderful things. They convey majesty and power.

A man with a name like Shushmito, Shamrat, Samudro, Rudro, Prokash, Indrojeet, Shurojit, Proshenjit,  Bishshodip, et cetera, is a man who will walk with his head held high, knowing that the world expects great deeds from him, which was why they bestowed the title that is his name upon him.

There are five rules for creating nicknames, which need to be followed. They are:
1.       Nicknames must have no connection to the real name. Orunabho cannot be called Orun. No, for that would be a logical, and such thing is anathema in the world of women. Instead he shall be called BHOMBOL. If possible, the nickname and real name must have no letters in common, but an ancient alphabet proves to be the constraining factor there.

2.       Nicknames must be humiliating to the power infinity.. If you are a tall strapping boy, with a flair for soccer, an easy charm and an endearing personality, then you shall be nicknamed - Khoka. And every time, you have set your sights on a girl, and are on the verge of having the aforementioned lass eat out of your hand - your mother will arrive and pronounce loudly - "Khokon, chalo". The ensuing sea of giggles will drown out whatever confidence you had earned from that last winning free-kick.

3.       A nickname must refer in some way to a suitably embarrassing incident in your childhood that you would give your arm and leg to forget. If it took you a little too long to shed your baby fat, then years of gymming will not rid you of the nomenclature Motka. If your face turned crimson when you cried as a toddler, you will be called Laltu. When you turn 40, your friends' children will call you Laltu Uncle. Even age will not earn you the right to be taken seriously thereafter.

4.       Different members of the family will make up different nicknames each more embarrassing than the preceding one. If one member of the family calls you Piklu, then another will call you Pocha, and another will call you Ghoton. The humiliation multiplies.

5.       You will always be introduced by your nickname until people forget you had a real name. Ranajoy might have taken on a gang of armed men single-handedly, but Tatai really didn't have a chance. After a point, Tatai will completely take over the beaten body of Ranajoy, weighed down by the pressure of a thousand taunts.

This strategy is surprisingly effective. Ask yourself - would you take Professor Boltu seriously? Or put much weight by the opinion of Dr Bubai? Or march into battle under the command of General Topa? The power of the nickname has scarred the psyche of Bengali men everywhere. It follows them like a monkey on their backs. That too, a monkey with a flair for slapstick, that was gifted to them by their own mothers, aunts and grandmothers.

Two movies set in two different worlds

Comparing movies is tough when it comes to portraying a child's innocence....
inspiring it can be, moving it should be, but a child's smiling face is something we love to look at....I saw the trailer of both and I am looking forward to see the movies....but for now, this is all I got to share with you.
