Remembering you..

Even today our love is young.
Strolling like couples
In the new Spring sun.

Been two years,
Still I whisper
The golden words
Each time I say your name.

Been two years,
Still I look for you
Among the dancing maidens.

Been two years
Still your perfume

Tantalizes my senses.

Been two years,
Since I was asked,
To stop counting
The merry springs,
The joyous summers,
The exotic monsoon
And
The cozy winters
I shared with you.

Its hard to count
The many Times
I lost myself in your love

Its hard to live
without you
by my side.

(in Honour of a colonel- who is so in love with his  late wife. )

3# 50 to 100 words: Love Cornered

This post is written on the occasion of the writer's birthday, and on the special request from Sourav C. Pandey

Sweating and puffing, your own heart beating,
" Wow cant wait she must be planning..."
 You know the meal,
But you don’t know what’s waiting.
Its ringing in your head,
Her special request...
You stare at her now and then,
 Noticing her special gait,
Her new look and all the other things,
You wished you could make your own.
You perhaps even dare to like her,
 But your paining heart,
Keeps your emotions at bay.
The dinner gets over,
 The clouds take their leave.
You watch her leave too,
 Never knowing
Even she had something to say.

To enjoy more heart felt musings,
Sourav's blog is the right place to click on.

your flowers

Wondering about your lovely flowers
You might have had
Only two
To give me

But your city celebrated
A full blossom today
Violet flowers
All over the place.

lost and found Mr.Bond

My meeting with Bond took place on one fine morning when our teacher made our read through, "Sounds I like to hear,"..a few years back I had learnt to imagine and now came the next step-"close your eyes and hear, listen and recognize sounds around you". It felt grand and the whole year was a gift in itself, for the trick helped me to understand the world around me from a different perspective. Sadly, my text book got sold off with a bunch of old newspapers and I missed my "sounds I like to hear" the most...all I knew was it was written by Ruskin Bond. And, down the years I looked for that piece in all the Bond books I came across-but for one.

Bond came into life again. A teacher again taught me about him-this time it was "the eyes are not here". I learnt to see the world with a different light yet again. But yes I missed the "sounds...". And few more years of searching and waiting followed.
A friend told me about Bond's autobiographical book-"rain in the mountains". And I could not stop myself from buying it in two day's time. It was a tough day- I snailed through the world and reached my house pretty late, tired and weak all through out, I looked and found a parcel waiting for me on the table- with tired fingers I ripped the casting and "rain in the mountains" glowed back at me...Was it apprehension, a distant rumbling of the clouds or the sudden cold wind, that touched my face softly, I flipped through the pages and studied the index closely. Buy the book, turn to page 108 of the penguin edition and read through.

Forwarded Messages: Are you an Angel?

following ghalib...

Ya Rab, na woh samjhe hain, na samjhenge meri baat
de aaur dil unko jo na de mujhko zubaan aaur

                                                           - Mirza Ghalib

When I wrote
You looked away
In disgust.

When I talked
You made it
Sure to
shut my words off.

I don't blame
You for all of these.

I just pray
With an earnest soul
"May your
Heart change
For better.
May your
Heart see me
as I am..."

Tumi kothay chile-(Where were you?)

 Eto bochor
(All these years)
Tumi kothay chile?
(Where were you?)
Tomay khujechi...
(Looked for you)
baysto shohorer
( in the busy city)
Olite Golite,
( in its nooks and corners)
Meghe vora,
(in the cloud cast)
borshar akashe,
(monsoon sky)
shiter alowan gaye,
(warped in wintry shawl)
Vorer alo chayate,
(looked for you in a shadowy morning)
Bodhdhyo ghorer
(in a closed, suffocating room)
kori kathe
( in its worn out beamed up ceiling)
alpo khola
 (through little open)
janlar opashe
(window, I looked for you
on the other side)
Eto bochor...
(for all these years)
Tumi kothay chile....
(where were you?)

something missing

The window was right at its place
The curtain was shifted to a side,
The bed was clean and creaseless.

Only its occupant had deserted the room.

warrior

Ever since born,
Wearing an Armour
A sword in hand,
A shield in the other,
Fighting hurdles,
Serpents disguised in saints,
No time to rest
No time to contemplate
No friends at arms length
And enemies are tired-less
Or are they all
Draped in the suits,
Lost in a mist
Fate and time are making love...
Who know who is who
"Friend or foe!"
Echo calls again and again
Conch shells blowing
Wild or civilized
Life is montage
Or a mirage
Or else a old piece of forgotten photo

Life is a joke
Looking out from
Scattered broken pieces of mirror.

BRAIN-STORM

It feels like a ragging sun,
 Rolling lava screaming inside
A protest march of thousand sinews
Millions of throbbing vocal cords
Mouthing a single word
Two letter defiance
A single and strong NO…
The armor clang against the self
The maze breathe vengeance
The shield empowers forgotten strength
Shoulders dry mind numb
Its war time
It’s time to slaughter
To kill the brainless
Survival for the fittest
Die the unfit
Who is that hiding under the shield
The maze
The sword
The strength
The bravest killer
The meek servitude
The silent victim
The victimizer
The dichotomy
The two sides overlap….

Boatsman

(Please note that I have tried to build the innocence that accompanies a child's perception and therefore have tried to keep the poem as crude as possible. Read it, thinking a small girl was telling you the whole and not me.)
A song on his lips,
A bare figure,
A smile of he lips,
The sound of the oars,
"Boats man, which way
Do you go?"

As he slowly
Turn into a speck
Over that river bend...
I wonder about his
name...
On days
when the world is bright
I think him
To be another
Helper of God...
Who fixes
The bonds
Of estranged mortals,
With smile on his face.

On days
When the wind is high
When the horizon is dark
When it seems
That the rain god
Is out to
ruin my world...
I think him to be
a brother of Charon
Who ferries
People to the lair
Lord Death.

(Though the image carries a meaning of its own and is yet again provided by Aritra Chatterjee, I took my own liberty and wrote something distinctly different. It is tale once told to me by a little girl, who believed in the stories of Demons and Gods. Here I tried to pay tribute to that friend, I did lose in the journey called life. As a child, I remember playing with her, But I don't recall her name...may be she was our maid's daughter, or the daughter of our neighbor's maid...no I remember nothing of it. All I recall was the strange perception she harbored of her homeland, and of the river and of the many boats men she got to see, while playing along with friends of her age, on the gullible river banks. )

Sound of Raindrops

Imagine
For once
The sound
Of raindrops,
Falling across
Your window pane,
Or on the perched earth,
On the pebbled path,
On the brick wall
Standing forlorn
Beyond your house,
Or on the shrubs and bushes
On the stretched out
Branches and half bloomed flowers
With slowly opening petals
With an eagerness
Of a shy maiden,
To see the world about.

Imagine,
For its too tiny a sound,
To make way
Through
The daily tantrum,
The bustling voices,
The jostling inner thoughts,
The humdrum
That clogs about your ears.

Just imagine
That you are
Hearing it
All at once,
At this moment...

Perhaps-they are
Not too far...

A Perfect Elopement

It so seems that,
My spirit
Is no longer
With me.
A beating heart
Within this rib cage,
Moans aloud
Suggesting its absence,
Now and then.
My spirit was eloped
A tryst or so,
I had previously thought,
When I first saw them together.
But little did I know,
The clandestine affair
Would leave
Me, barren...
In the days to come.
My spirit has eloped,
With none..
But the wild, rain clouds,
With the brothers
Of thunderstorm,
With the keepers
Of madding shower...
With the masters of
Those who left...
Drenching my nerves...
The other weary day.

An Illusion Called Colossus

Swirling skirt
My dancing girl
A mirage of
My little known
Ruined past.

A hag
Weaves
A dark warper
With eyes that never
Saw the light.

In the distance,
She waits,
With eyes cast
on the bended path
Along her road,
Thinking I will some day
Pass by...

But I had a tale
Stitched to my coat
A tale I cannot share.

The mirage
Fades, overlaps
And leaves behind
The colossus smokey remains
A uncanny trail
That I keep walking away from.

It is dusk, the day has come
To yet another end,
The meadow waits
For the star cast night,
I walk away...
Away and further away...
From a dream
I find too hard
To share.

(The image was yet again provided by a noble friend: Aritra Chatterjee, with a demand:
"well I'm sending this picture, I'm giving u all the freedom... interpret it yourself and give it your words...".
I think I have tried to do some justice to the image. It actually took me several days to understand the image, the credit of creating the vast illusion of course goes to the owner of the image, who has with dexterity, provided such comprehensive rendition.  )

Falling Free

Falling free
Or soaring high

I know
Not why
But I
Want to fly.

NO,
It's not a song....
But a maiden wish...
A want to reach
up to the stars
And fly off with clouds...

My window teaches
weaves and preaches
strange tales all night...
My heart is skipping
A wish of
Falling free.

Sudden Shower

My feet
Took me
To the edge
Of the world.

The Choas
Beckoned from below
The heaven
Looked
Broken
into thousand pieces.

A drop and another flowed
I had given up hope...
And now my shower
Has returned
With full vigor.

In love with raindrops

They breathe,
They patter,
They play
That savage song,
Across my window pane.

No binds
Can hold my back,
No taboo,
Can stop
My advance,
With a skipping heart,
A laughing face,
I rush outside,
To welcome
My first shower
In love with
Those once a year,
Raindrops.

Behind the blinds

Behind the blinds,
I saw
Her silhouette

Heard her bangles cling,
Her anklets jingle,
At the beat
Of her restless feet.

I waited for her
To spell my name...
The clouds
Rumbled above.

Sombre tales

The sand dunes
Concealed below them.
My quiet and sombre tales.

Your footprints,
The love-roses,
The engagement ring,
Your enclosed locket,
And those letters
You had written
To me
Last summer.

The sand dunes
Do shift about...
But never will
They tell
others
About our
Secret love.
